Installing Debian over SLES/RHEL
(too old to reply)

Hi all,

I want to install Debian Lenny over a SUSE Ent Server 10 /Redhat EL 4
/ CentOS 4.7 system (S/390(X)) while only having ssh access to the
server. How can I do this in a safe way? How would I install the
bootloader correctly without "bricking" the system?

There is a rescue system but I have not been able to get into it...
how useless. I'll keep trying.

Cheers
Dan

The best option is to use 'debootstrap' to install onto an empty
disk from a running system. You can then use 'cpcmd' to issue
an ipl from that disk to see if it boots. If you have configured
the VM watchdog correctly, it should automatically reboot into the
original system in case of misconfiguration.
